This lecture class is a survey of dance forms that originate in the Middle East and North Africa, with emphasis placed on their practice and development during the 19th and 20th centuries. Elements relating to solo-improvised dance, combat dance, spiritual dance, Raqs Sharqi (“Belly Dance”), and theatrical dance are included. |
| Dance 128: Middle Eastern Dance |
This studio class will introduce the basic principles and techniques of Raqs Sharqi (commonly known as “belly dance”) as it is found in Egypt. Fall semester will focus on embodying the difference between Beledi and Classical forms of "Belly Dance." |
